Our Story

As an environment enthusiast committed to bringing change but a qualified and experienced Human Resource professional, I threw caution to the wind when I decided to reduce carbon footprint caused by massive production, usage and dump yards of textiles. My passion for clothes made it easier for me to find ways and means to create awareness about this fact in the urban population. Soon brand ‘Akalroop’ was set to promote conscious living by wearing responsibly. But the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, roped-in handloom weavers struggling to meet ends as consumerism bends down to fast fashion. With constant guidance and support, we are trying to revive the old heritage of handloom weaving. It’s about time sustainability becomes key to us.

Remake Ambassador, India

Taruna Magan, an entrepreneur and a nature enthusiast is the founder of Akalroop. She is a qualified and experienced Human Resources professional who decided to reduce the carbon footprint caused by massive production, consumption and dumping of impure textiles.

The brand ‘Akalroop’ was set up to promote conscious living by wearing responsibly. She started this brand to:

1. Eradicate pollution caused by polymer based textiles used inordinately in apparel industry.
2. Improve condition of marginalised weavers where mainstream economic growth touches their lives. In the long run extend services to integrate weavers across borders.
3. Revive the old heritage of handloom weaving in India and at the same time introduce the work of weavers to different parts of the world.

Sustainability has always been a lifestyle for Taruna, be it growing her own vegetables in her kitchen garden, practising reuse, repair & rewear, giving opportunities to small business to grow, and above all, conscious consumption. She realises the adverse role that the fashion industry plays in the phenomenon of climate change and the life of garment manufacturing workers, which is why she has started this journey of a thousand miles with a single step – Akalroop! The brand sells natural handwoven fabrics and accessories.

With Remake’s guidelines, she hopes to strengthen not only her belief system but also make a positive impact on the people she surrounds herself with.

‘I am convinced, for overall recovery of the economy, it is important that we consciously decide to promote small business striving to build themselves on sustainability. We support handmade; we practice fashion with compassion.’

"The Earth, Water, Air and Space belong to everyone. Leave it for the future generations to dwell on the beauty of life. LET HISTORY NOT JUDGE US!”
